Bank account

Bank account

Bank account is an account with a bank or building society used to receive and send money. In your bookkeeping, treat each bank account as its own ledger and match every entry to the bank statement (reconciliation) to keep records accurate.

Most small businesses use a business current account for day‑to‑day payments, and may add a savings account for surplus cash or a client account to hold money for others. When asking customers to pay by bank transfer, include your account name, sort code and account number; for international payers, add IBAN and BIC/SWIFT. Keeping business and personal money separate makes accounting clearer.
